Master cartoonist Will Eisner used to sometimes do this thing in his seminal comic, The Spirit, where he would have the elements in the background setting shaped like letters to spell out the title of the story. Here's a link to a great sampling of Eisner covers as well as some modern-day work that was influenced by his technique. I thought I'd experiment with that technique for the sound effect here.
Finishing this page was a struggle. As I was drawing it, I started to feel a bit negative about the comic and my own artistic ability. Ultimately I decided that I just had to let it go and move forward. Looking back it it now, weeks later, I'm pleased to say that negativity has faded and I'm pretty happy with how this page looks.
Onwards and upwards!
