This page was TWO tons of fun to draw! I actually had to pull back from the temptation to add even more debris, more spray paint, more motion lines, more STUFF to this page. It's a tug-of-war between wanting to convey the chaos of the moment, and wanting to convey that moment with clarity. I think I found a good balance.

The pose of Steamroller Man holding Paige was a tricky one to draw, I'm not gonna lie! I tried a few different poses, actively avoiding this type of pose - to be honest it seemed a bit clich├ęd because it's been used by lots of comic artists - but hey, I guess the reason for that is that it works! I used the 3D figure models included in Clip Studio Paint EX to make a reference pose for my drawing, which made things a LOT easier!

DANG that's a nice spread! That hard head comes in handy!
MattSchofield 27th Jul 2020, 9:12 AM
Thanks, Mrremoraman! Yeah, having a head like that is a double-edged sword... great for smashing, not so great for thinking.

It's ok, it's only a Pieta if you're dramatically dying

"not what I meant"-

But.. but... it worked! ;D

Yep, sometimes you just gotta go with what works! 29th Jul 2020, 8:37 AM
Do Steamroller Man's powers include "flying" or at least "landing"? I think we've only seen him so far as a projectile...

I didn't recognize this as a spread because the width is the same as usual, though there's enough room for double width on the screen (as I see it, at least). Is there a way to tinker with the format to reduce the padding?

Or put an authentic crease down the middle, with two staples :)
MattSchofield 29th Jul 2020, 11:40 AM
No, he can't fly. The next page will have a short explanation of his powers, so stay tuned for that.

To address your concern about the double-page spread not reading as such: I am aware of the issue, but I don't want to do a lot of tinkering with page format for the occasional double-page spread. The reason for the current page width is that I was posting Steamroller Man on Tapas before I was posting on CF, and the Tapas format has a maximum width of 940px. So I've just stuck with that. I don't want to export different resolutions for different platforms. I do one export file that goes up here, on Tapas and on the Steamroller Man Facebook page.

My original intent was to make this a print comic, and I write and draw with that in mind. So the double-page spread will work as it's supposed to when it's printed - complete with the staples you suggested!

Uh, sorry. Just got to the latest page and had to howl with vexation---no more to read yet!

I literally cannot express my admiration for your skill, your imagination, your story-telling ability, your unbelievably funny jokes, and so much more than I can possibly express...

There is such an abysmal dearth of decent comics and art in general in this old world...thank you so, so much from the bottom of my heart!

Wow! Again, thank you, Peter!

Praise like that is like high-grade rocket fuel for my motivation to keep going with Steamroller Man!

Sorry there's no more pages yet! I post a new one every second Monday (I'm working on this in my spare time, and am not a super-fast artist) - hopefully that will be just often enough for you!

I'm not very fast either. If you like, you can check out my very own first ever webcomic, Beautiful Tyranny, by clicking my profile pic. Its going to be short anyway, but so far I've only managed to get a couple pages up!

And I really don't have much of a clue what I'm doing. :)

he seems to enjoy his job.

He does indeed!

When to stop adding debris is truly more of an art than a science! Those 3D figure models in CSP area great help!
